Every year, merely in Hollywood, more than 50 movies are released, but this does not mean, all of them become blockbuster hits. Rather they are only, a few who leave legacies behind them. Entertainment news website, The wrap recently walked down the memory lane and checked out these 10 movies, which grossed the highest over a decade.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
The movie was released on July 7, 2006. It is the second installment of Disney’s fantasy/action film series, Pirates of the Caribbean. It was more successful, commercially than its predecessor. The movie made $136 million domestically in its opening week. Overall, it earned around $423.3 million in the States while it garnered $1.06 billion globally. It is ranked as the 18th highest-grossing movies of all time worldwide.
Spider-Man 3 was released on May 4, 2007. Being the third installment of Spider Man series, it was destined to become a blockbuster hit. Though it did not make as much money as its predecessors, it still made enough to leave its mark. It was the last movie, which starred Toby Maguire. The film earned $336.5 million domestically while it made $890 million worldwide.
The Dark Knight
It was released on July 18, 2008. The sequel to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy became an instant hit amongst its fans and the critics, as expected. The film is the 25th highest grossing film of all times that helped late Heath Ledger win its first and last Oscar. The Dark Knight made revenue of $534.8 million in the States and more than $1 billion globally.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
The second part of Transformers film series, Revenge of the Fallen became the highest grossing movie of 2009’s summer and the second highest grossing movie of the year. Being released on June 24, 2009, it earned a total of $402.1 million domestically and $836 million worldwide.
Toy Story 3
Pixar’s much-loved movie, Toy Story 3, became the second Pixar film to receive an Academy Award. Released in the summers of 2010, June 18, it became the highest grossing movie of 2010 and the third highest grossing movie of all time. It grossed $415 million domestically and made more than $1 billion globally.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2
The last chapter of Harry Potter film series was released on July 15, 2011. Till this date, Harry Potter has been one of the most watched children’s fantasy movies. After eight years, it was a sad-sweet departure for the Potter fans. The film earned $381 million domestically and around $960 million worldwide.
Marvel’s The Avengers
The Avengers was released theatrically on May 4, 2012, in the United States. It was given positive reviews and got numerous critical awards and nominations. Domestically, it generated revenue of 4623.4 million while it grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide. It was the first Marvel movie to earn more than $1 billion.
Iron Man 3
After Avengers, Marvel became more confident in its production team. It rolled out the third part of Iron Man movie series in the summer of 2013. Domestically, Iron man 3 earned $409 million and globally $1.2 billion.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Marvel released Guardians of the Galaxy in April of 2014. It was successful both commercially and critically. The critics loved it, and the fans could not get enough of it. The movie grossed $333.1 million domestically and $773 million worldwide.
It took more than just a few years for the fourth installment of Jurassic Park to be released. It was released on June 12, 2015. The movie earned a total of $652.2 million domestically and $1.6 billion globally.
