‘Oman’s food commodities bill totals $2.94 billion

The value of food products imported into Oman fell 3.06% from OMR1.19 billion (US$3.9) in 2014 to OMR1.13 billion (US$2.94 billion) in 2015, said an Oman News Agency (ONA) report, quoting figures from National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The exports and re-exports of food commodities were worth OMR441.1 million in 2015 as against OMR426.7 million in 2014, showing a rise of 3.37%.

The report pointed out that the value of the Sultanate’s imports of livestock in 2015 stood at OMR69.9 million compared to OMR74.4 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same fell to OMR41.8 million in 2015 from OMR48.9 million during 2014.

Meat and associated products

Oman’s imports of meat and related products stood at OMR137.5 million in 2015 against OMR134.1 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same rose to OMR28.2 million in 2015 from OMR15.2 million in 2014.

The imports of dairy products and eggs into Oman stood at OMR242.2 million in 2015, compared to OMR266.2 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same at OMR114.4 million in 2015 shows a slight decline from OMR116.7 million in 2014.

The value of imports of fish and associated products stood at OMR26 million in 2015 compared to OMR22.8 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same fell to OMR53.2 million in 2015 from OMR58.5 million in preceding year.

Cereals and other dairy products

The imports of cereals and associated products were worth OMR281.3 million in 2015 as against OMR271.8 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same rose to OMR102.09 million in 2015 from OMR91.6 million in 2014.

Fruits and vegetable imports into Oman fell to worth OMR189.6 million in 2015 from OMR210.4 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same was OMR43.7 million in 2015 as against OMR45.4 million in 2014. The Sultanate’s imports of sugar, associated products and honey hit OMR32.2 million in 2015 as against OMR32.8 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same rose to OMR4.3 million in 2015 from OMR2.9 million in 2014.

The imports of coffee, tea, cacao and spices reached OMR60.8 million in 2015 compared to OMR71.2 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same declined to OMR2.8 million in 2015 from OMR3.5 million in 2014.

The imports of other food items stood at OMR50.8 million in 2015 as against OMR48.9 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same was OMR40.8 million in 2015 compared to OMR38.07 million in 2014.

The value of animal food (excluding grinded cereals) stood at OMR42.4 million in 2015 as against OMR36 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same hit OMR9.2 million in 2015 compared to OMR6.4 million in 2014.
